Korea Education & Research Information Service (KERIS) and Sun Microsystems are pleased
to announce ¡°2008 International Conference on Educational Applications of Open Source Software¡± to be held on April 25th, 2008.

Since the first appearance of Open-source software (OSS) in 1984, OSS has continued to be
adopted at the various fields under the aggressive support from government institutes and
private organizations around the world.

Lately, it is needed for the field of education to understand the educational utilization of OSS
in order to help equalize access to educational knowledge across the world and provide
an opportunity for everyone to share, use, and reuse knowledge. In particular, with the rapid-
growing demands for the e-learning, interest in open source software and open educational
resources (OER) is increasing for the cost reduction and for the development and dissemination
of high quality content, innovative approaches to remove barriers to the creation and sharing of
high quality resources.

This conference is focusing on world-wide best practices to deliver the possibilities of utilizing
OSS throughout the education to ultimately contribute to create an optimal educational
